An edible cityscape: vertical allotments at Chelsea

B&Q Vertical Allotment Garden, RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2011

The B&Q Garden, RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2011

The eye-catching B&Q vertical allotment garden won gold at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in London this year.

Designed by architects Lawrie Chetwood and Patrick Collins, the 9m-tall edible tower with tomatoes and herbs hanging off the walls demonstrates how you can use any space – however small – to grow your own in an urban environment, and illustrates the importance of locally-produced and sustainable food in the city.

Horticulture Trading Manager at B&Q Steve Guy said: “We hope visitors will be inspired to grow their own fruit and veg.”
